Description

Join the Schuylkill Action Network (SAN) for a freshwater mussel training on Wed, May 16th. We need your help to survey for mussel presence across streams in the Schuylkill River Watershed. Freshwater mussels populations have been declining, and streams without mussels are at a serious disadvantage since mussels provide many benefits, such as protecting against erosion and filtering and cleaning water.

The good news is you and your volunteers can play a huge role in surveying for mussels! Join us to learn how to conduct a survey and engage your volunteers to help look for and identify mussels. The workshop will consist of a presentation followed by a hands-on surverying in local waterways!

The workshop will take place in Auburn, PA (Schuylkill County) from 11am-2pm. Please bring your own lunch and water. You will be getting into the stream, so please dress appropriately!

Please park in the car shop parking lot. This is one of our partner's family's property who kindly is hosting us for the training!

If you have any questions, contact Virginia Vassalotti at vvassalotti@delawareestuary.org or 302-655-4990 ext 121.

The Schuylkill Action Network's (SAN) mission is to improve water resources through collaborative action in the Schuylkill River Watershed. The SAN seeks to achieve this mission through collaborative actions in partnership with local watershed organizations, land conservation organizations, businesses, academics, water suppliers, recreational communities, local governments, and regional, state, and federal agencies. Action is our middle name, and it’s what makes the SAN a successful national model for source water protection, collaboration, and implementation.

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, which administers the SAN, is committed to providing equal access to information about its programs, including document translation services for all individuals. Please contact byerger@delawareestuary.org to request PDE's free access services.
